Senior General Manager (Public Relations), National Dairy Development Board, Anand 388 001, Gujarat.

The job involves:

This is the senior most position in the Dairy Board apart from those of the Chairman, and the Executive Directors. It involves the complete image management of the Dairy Board of India. The work has both national and international ramifications since the Dairy Board, which is a statutory body of the Government of India, has to deal with the Government of India, Parlia ment, the bureaucracy and international organisations like the World Bank, the Food and Agricultural Organisations and cooperative organisations of other major dairying nations. My superiors are colleagues of international stature and the Chairman who till recently was Dr. V. Kurien is a winner of the Ramon Magsaysay Award and the World Food Prize among others. He has now been succeeded by Dr A. Patel who is an equally reputed Dairy Scientist and veterinarian. I report directly to her. The various departments of the NDDB are all headed, for the moment, by General Managers, except for Public Relations which is headed by a Senior General Manager. In terms of heirarchy he is fourth from top after the Chairman, and the two Executive Directors.

Media Relations:

Handled by a General Manager (Public Relations) under my supervision this involves close co-ordination with the print and electronic media to ensure that the Board's contribution to society is portrayed and perceived in the correct perspective. He has the support of four officers and other staff.

Publications:

Also under the General Manager (Public Relations) under my supervision this involves the publication of in-house literature including the Annual Report, annual reports of other associate organisations, a bi-monthly bi-lingual house journal for internal publics and a fortnightly news digest for external publics.

Protocol:

The National Dairy Development Board plays host to a large number of high powered delegations from all over the world throughout the year. These delega tions often consist of heads of state and ambassadorial level guests, which need special arrangements. Protocol arrangements are handled by the Protocol sec tion headed by a Manager (Public Relations) under my supervision. He has the support of three officers and other staff.

Previous assignments:

1991-95

Ran an independent Public Relations Consultancy named Bellfort Business Communications in association with Bellfort Business Communications, Hous ton, Texas. Handled image management and internal house magazines for Petroleum India International the foreign consultancy arm of the nationalised oil sector.

1985-91

In the Senior Management level as Public Relations Manager, State Bank of India, Local Head Office, Bombay controlling the PR function for two states: Maharashtra and Goa

Simultaneous charge as Special Secretary to the Chief General Manager for Community Services Banking

The job involved media relations, internal communications, advertising, and training and development.

1978-85

Manager of the State Bank of India's branches in Bombay city.

1974-78

As Assistant Chief Officer in the State Bank of India's Economic and Statistical Research Department in its Central Office specialising in integrated rural devel opment credit planning. Resource to the faculty of the Bank's staff College, Hy derabad. Co-authored a report on the implementation of the first district credit plan with the National Institute of Bank Management for the Reserve Bank of India.

1971-74

Worked at the branches and the Local Head Office of the State Bank of India in various capacities as a junior officer of the Bank after having joined as a Proba tionary Officer in 1971

Recognition and Awards:

Won for the State Bank of India as many as ten prizes of which six were first prizes from within the State Bank Group and the Association of Business Com municators of India, for internal house journals and media coverage during my six year stint as the Bank's head of PR.

English, Hindi, Marathi, Konkani. Can understand Gujarati.

Hobbies:

Reading, writing and music.

Have been writing for newspapers and magazines for the last 25 years. Have written for: The Times of India, The Economic Times, The Financial Express, Business India, The Sunday Observer, Deccan Herald, Freedom First etc.
